Services offered
What types of concrete work does Quality Concrete of Oak Grove handle?
Both residential and commercial — the full range. For homes: driveways, patios, pool decks, sidewalks, walkways, stamped and decorative concrete, retaining walls, and repair or replacement. For commercial properties: foundations, sitework, parking lots, warehouse and industrial floors, ADA concrete, curbs, and gutters.
Do you handle both new pours and replacement of existing concrete?
Both. New pours for additions and new construction, and full replacement when existing concrete has failed, settled, or heaved beyond the point where repair makes sense.
Can you take on both small residential jobs and larger commercial projects?
Yes. The scale ranges from a single driveway or backyard patio to commercial flatwork operations on I-70 corridor properties. We handle both through Ford Concrete.
Is decorative concrete different from standard concrete?
Same material, different surface treatment. Standard concrete gets a broom finish — functional, durable, plain. Decorative options include stamped patterns pressed before curing, integral color, and surface-applied stain. The core concrete is the same; what changes is the surface work.
What is Ford Concrete and how does Quality Concrete of Oak Grove relate to it?
Ford Concrete is an established Kansas City concrete contractor. Quality Concrete of Oak Grove is Ford Concrete's east KC metro operation — the local point of contact for Oak Grove, Grain Valley, Blue Springs, Independence, Odessa, and the east metro corridor. You get direct local access with the crew depth and commercial capability of Ford Concrete behind the work.
Repair vs. replacement
How do I know if my concrete needs repair or full replacement?
Repair works for surface spalling, hairline cracks that aren't widening, and sections still flat and draining correctly. Replacement is better when sections have settled — one slab lower than the next — when heaving from freeze-thaw or tree roots has pushed sections up, or when cracks are wide with vertical displacement. We look at it in person and tell you honestly.
Can cracked concrete be repaired without replacing the whole slab?
Depends on the crack. Hairline or narrow cracks that haven't moved or widened can often be sealed. Wider cracks with movement or displacement — where you can see the base beneath — are usually replacement territory. Surface patching on structural cracks treats the symptom, not the cause.
What causes concrete to crack or settle in the east KC metro?
Multiple causes. Clay-rich soil east of KC expands and contracts with seasonal moisture changes, which can heave or settle slabs. Missouri freeze-thaw cycles open any imperfection over time. Inadequate base preparation at installation. Improperly placed or absent control joints. Tree root intrusion. Deicer salt degrading the surface over years.
How long does concrete typically last?
Concrete installed correctly — with proper base preparation, adequate thickness, correctly placed control joints, and appropriate mix design — can last 30 or more years. Concrete installed on inadequate base preparation, without proper joints, or with the wrong mix for the conditions can deteriorate much sooner. Local soil and climate exposure matter significantly.

Driveways, patios, and decorative concrete
How long does it take to install a concrete driveway?
The pour typically takes one to two days. After that, concrete needs to cure before it can handle vehicle traffic — usually five to seven days for light vehicles, longer for heavier loads. We'll give you a specific timeline when we look at the project in person.
What does the concrete driveway installation process involve?
We excavate to the correct depth, compact the base, place gravel subbase, set forms, pour concrete, and finish the surface. Control joints get cut after the pour to direct any cracking to predetermined lines. After the pour, there's a cure period before the surface is ready for use.
What stamped concrete patterns are available?
A wide range — ashlar slate, flagstone, cobblestone, brick, wood plank, European fan, and others. Patterns can be combined with integral color or surface-applied stain. The right pattern depends on the application and what fits the home's exterior.
What finish options are available for concrete patios?
Standard broom finish is the most common — practical, slip-resistant, and durable. Exposed aggregate gives a textured look with small stones visible at the surface. Stamped patterns and color options work for patios where appearance is a priority. We can discuss what's appropriate for your specific project.
Commercial concrete
What kinds of commercial concrete projects do you handle?
Parking lots, warehouse and industrial floors, ADA-compliant ramps and accessible concrete, curbs and gutters, foundations and sitework for additions and new construction, and commercial flatwork generally. We work with property owners and general contractors on I-70 corridor properties.
Do you work with general contractors on commercial projects?
Yes. If you're a GC looking for a reliable concrete subcontractor for flatwork in the east KC metro, we're worth a call.
What specifications do commercial concrete floors need to meet?
Depends on the application. Warehouse and industrial floors have flatness, thickness, and strength requirements that vary by racking load and forklift traffic. Parking lots need drainage designed in from the start. ADA concrete has slope and surface texture requirements set by code. We spec each project for the use it'll see.
Local concrete conditions
Why does clay soil affect concrete in the east KC metro?
Clay-rich soil expands when wet and contracts when dry. This seasonal movement can heave slabs in wet springs and allow them to settle in dry summers. Concrete poured directly onto clay without a compacted gravel subbase is vulnerable to this movement. Base preparation is what separates a slab that holds from one that doesn't.
How do Missouri winters affect concrete?
Freeze-thaw cycles are the main issue. Water that gets into cracks or surface imperfections expands when it freezes, widening the defect. Deicers — especially rock salt — accelerate surface spalling on concrete not designed for deicer exposure. New concrete should use an air-entrained mix when deicer exposure is expected.
Are permits required for concrete driveways or patios in Oak Grove?
Requirements vary by scope and municipality. Projects affecting public right-of-way, adding curb cuts, or exceeding certain size thresholds may require permits. We can advise on what typically applies to your specific project and city.
Estimate process
How do I request a free estimate?
Call (816) 542-6124 or fill out the estimate form at qualityconcreteoakgrove.com/contact/. We'll get back to you quickly to schedule an on-site visit.
Are estimates really done in person?
Yes. Concrete projects need to be seen to be priced accurately. We need to assess base conditions, drainage, access, existing concrete condition, and the scope before we can give you a reliable number. Phone estimates on concrete work are usually off by enough to cause problems later.
What should I have ready for the estimate visit?
Not much preparation needed. Knowing roughly what you're looking for — replace the driveway, add a backyard patio, repair the approach — is enough. We'll ask questions and look at the site. If there's relevant history like previous work, drainage issues, or specific timing requirements, mention those.
